Black Women’s Educational Alliance Philadelphia Chapter Scholarship Application 

We recognize that it is only through joint efforts that our objective can be truly realized. 

“In Unity, There Is Progress!” 

The Black Women’s Educational Alliance (BWEA) is seeking applications for the 2023-2024 BWEA Scholarship Opportunity from college-bound seniors who meet the eligibility criteria listed below. 

 

BWEA is a non–profit organization which was established in 1976.  The mission of our organization is to bring together women of diverse backgrounds to provide opportunities for women to grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking, support, and recognition. 

 

Below you will find the application for the 2024 BWEA Scholarship opportunity. Please note that all completed applications must be received by May 4th, 2024.  Please email completed application to bweaphilachpt@gmail.com.

 

This year we are awarding scholarships to African American high school graduating seniors who will be a freshman in the upcoming school year in the following categories:

  • Attending an HBCU - Any Major

  • Attending any College/University- Education Major  

  • Attending any College/University- Any Major

 

Eligibility Criteria:     

 

Applicants must: 

  1. Be an African American female or male 

  2. Be a Philadelphia resident 

  3. Be a Philadelphia Public or Charter High School Senior  

  4. Have a minimum High School GPA of 2.9 on a 4.0 scale 

  5. Plan to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college/university  

  6. Have participated in community service

  7. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher or educational administrator (either or)

**One (1) Additional Scholarship will be awarded for a student with a Certified IEP/ Disability. The          eligibility requirements are as follows: 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be an African American female or male 

  2. Be a Philadelphia resident 

  3. Be a Philadelphia Public or Charter High School Senior  

  4. Have a Certified IEP and be graduating by IEP goal achievement or GPA of 2.0 or higher

  5. Plan to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college/university 

  6. Have participated in community service

  7. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher or educational administrator (either or)

How to Apply:  

Applicants must submit the following items in one complete package:    

  1. Completed application. Be sure to type or print legibly (online submissions accepted)

  2. Student Recommendation forms 

  3. Essay 

  4. Official High School Transcript w/GPA (copies will be accepted) 

  5. Proof of college/university acceptance, if available (copies will be accepted)
